We are just looking at some new accommodation for our employees, it is a large site. The toilet facilities are a small walk (2 mins – outside) away from where the staff rest room is, I’ve looked at the Welfare ACOP and all i can see is “Suitable and sufficient sanitary conveniences shall be provided at readily accessible places.” and “Sufficient facilities should be provided to enable everyone at work to use them without undue delay” Is there any maximum distance or time away from the rest rooms? The toilet facilities exceed the requirements....when you get there.

Given the often unwholesome nature of some workplace toilets, I suggest the further away the better!

I'm on a site where the nearest toilet could be 2.2 miles away depending on the exact location of the work. Transport is provided.

Im not aware of any specific distances for toilets, but as you have already pointed out, provided you have suitable and sufficient facilities on your site which are readily accessible should be fine. As Ron says, further away the better :)

At various points around the site undertake an experiment e.g. wait until U want to 'Go' [really want to 'Go'] and then try to 'Go' from that point. U will soon realise how far away a toilet needs to be In my personal view there is no excuse these days of needing to travel 2 miles to a 'loo' in 90% of workplaces inclusive of forestry and similar areas!

Chris, I think in that circumstance, "going to the toilet" could become a bit of an involuntary function! I get the heebie-jeebies* just watching the film!!!! *bite me, spell-checker.

You can envisage having toilets at different location to minimize / limit the walking distance but should be appropriately close to mess room and also where most of the employee will work. For construction site, the toilet should be outside tower crane. The wind direction and ground slope also are factors to be considered for a better positioning
