I have completed a MAC assessment, which for the particular operation I was looking at didn't highlight any real problems. Can someone tell me what is the point in the numerical score???

The point of the numerical score is that if you have scored a number of tasks, it shows you which ones to prioritise for improvement. On its own it means nothing.

As the Guidance itself suggests, the MAC tool forms part of your RA and is not a replacement for it. It is only a tool to help focus your RA, not a definitive statement on whether a task should or should not be carried out in a particular way.
