We're soon to be fitting some solar panels on a private property and will be using scaffolding etc and fully trained personel to carry out the work. The owner of the property wants to inspect the work and fully intends to to be on the roof/scaffolding as the work is being carried out even though we've highlighted the dangers of this to him. Basically where do we stand should anything happen to him?

A domestic property presumably. Not unreasonable for the chap to be concerned that his investment is properly installed and that his roof will remain wind and water tight. Best to arrange a number of times/phases for customer access, avoiding obvious safety conflicts during lifting, hoisting etc. reducing PPE issues to perhaps a hard hat (which you should supply). Don't know the duration of the task. Presumably you intend to make it difficult to access that scaffold when you aren't there.

Many thanks, the company's looking at getting him to sign a disclaimer!

A disclaimer for what??
Not worth the paper written on in the law courts!

Disclaimers aren't worth the paper they are written on; do what you can to protect him (as suggested above) and make sure your public liability insurance is up to date!
