I am looking to put together a fire alarm isolation policy / procedure for all hot works / intrusive (dust creating) works, within an healthcare environment with many zones etc. Has anybody got something simple they can share that is easy to audit? SBH

SBH the problem would be that it depends on the system that is installed. Older system are very basic, whereas new system can be programmed to remove defective or isolate a detector or zone (again dependent on the type of system – financial restraints on installation). I would consult the installer on what you can and can’t do dependant on the system installed. I would also be very careful in who can do this as reset codes for panels can be abused.

Something along the lines of: be agreed in advance with Facilities and Health & Safety be notified to all staff via e mail have alarm panel isolation of areas likely to give rise to false alarms establish a protocol to ensure that the emergency services are notified of a fire be notified to the monitoring service to prevent unwanted call outs be subject to a permit to work be completed within a working day so that the alarm is working normally when the building is unattended. consider isolation of test stands via key switch for duration of works Also have a search on BP's 10 Golden Rules.....
