Can you please advise what would the ideal height if hoarding be. Scaffolding is due to be erected just inside and it is essential that no-one can climb over to access the scaffolding(works are being carried out on a mental health hospital building). A infra-red alarm is also being installed so on site security are alerted of a breach.

The building site is located in a central position, a suggestion has been made that is should be 5m high - is that excessive. It is currently 2.5m.

Thanks

There is no ideal - just look at the big sites in the town centres and evaluate if those examples would suit your needs noting that nothing U put in place will stop youngsters etc if they really want to get in/over they will - so we do what is reasonably practicable

Where U have an additional problem e.g. Mental health patents allow for the situation in your management system but again we can only do what is RP whilst accounting for a persons dignity

Just remeber that a site hoarding comes under the Temporary works Banner as well and something 5Mtrs high will need a structural Engineer to design in the likes of wind loadings and depth of foundations.

The 5m is the standard used for anti climb fencing around Mental Health Units - but this is normally for fencing which would not have a wind loading to any great degree. Have you considered fitting netting from the top of the hoarding to a high point on the scaffold to prevent someone climbing over. You may also consider a section cantilevered back to prevent access or even better use this with netting as described above.

Thanks for the useful comments. After consulting with various parteis, the decision was made to increase the height to 3m.
