Is there a requirement to carry out Statutory Inpections on Fire Sprinkler Systems? Our sprinkler system which covers our factory area is regually checked and maintained by our engineers, does it also need to have an annual statutory inspection?

Carol. As an owner of several large sprinkler systems, I know of no statutory requirements. Your building insurer will give you all the info you need re testing, inspection and maintenance, if you ask them. Any contractors must be registered with and approved by the LPC. Google = LPC sprinklers.

There is a general requirement to maintain fire safety equipment and systems under the RRFSO, Regulatory Fire Safety Order,

There is nearly always a requirements in safety legislation to maintain something that is provided for h&s reasons.

Even if the basic s2 of HASWA, applies.

Thanks for the replies, I am aware of the need for regular inpsection & testing, we are a Polish owned company and it is our Polish insurer who is asking for the statutory inspection. I just needed confirmation that there was no legal need to do this in England

Carol there is a legal need for it as per the above answers.

In my experience with sprinklers it is usually the insurance co. that makes the requirement and they sometimes do the inspection themselves. All part of the insurance costs?
