Good morning all.
I'm just typing up an FRA done recently and I've noted that one of the fire doors seems to close slowly and seems to require very little effort to open. I'm fairly sure there is a standard for this but I don't have the figures. Can anyone help?
I can't access British Standards at the moment, so please no referrals to there.
Thank you

Smurf I just looked at this website http://www.budget-fire.co.uk/fire-door-closers/It has a couple of charts lower down the page with closing strength and EN classification Nos. for different closers. You could give them a call for further info? I would be interested in what you find out.

Cheers Chris,
Knew you would come to the rescue. Time for the FM to plough the O&M manual next to find out what door was spec'd on the design.

Hi Smurf, the maximum closing time for a fire door should be no more than 25 seconds. (BS EN 1154 Controlled Door Closing Devices and also "The Association of British Hardware Manufacturers, Best Practice Guide for Controlled Closing Door Devices to BS EN 1154")

Sorry, should have said initially that the info you specifically asked about is referred to on page 31 of the above document

Thanks Martin, that looks useful at first glance I'll have proper trawl through later.
Cheers SP2. Is it just me or does 25 seconds seem like an awfully long time?

It does seem a long time especially when your rear end is getting burnt ! Just try holding your breath for 25 seconds?
The main point is the closer has to close the door and keep it shut to hold back the pressure of the fire.
When open it has to allow people through the door, especially the disabled and aged so it can't be too strong.
