Looking for some practitioners who may have experience with this. From an OH point-of-view health checks are a simple enough process to deal with when approaching it from an employee framework, but what I am trying to cut through is the swath of logistics relating to the supply of health information from students prior to enrollment. From a Heath Records Act etc point of view how have others been managing this? Andrew Böber CMIOSH FRSPH FRGS

The base system is the same but then U have to account for all the laws etc relating to children [those below 18 years old] and this is where it gets very very very complicated and parents/guardians etc get involved. U need to update yourself with all the laws etc that cover children and the associated areas as your first actions Why are you looking at this area in particular?

Looking at this in the same way of pre-employment health questionnaires for employees, as with students within the college I work for. However, it is given the division of the two - as one is employee and the other non-employee, although within our duty-of-care. Given the range of trade courses and industrial environments which the courses cover this pre-check would logically be necessary for any risk assessment to be undertaken. However, it raises the issue of 'disclosure' given what should and shouldn't be provided as information to Faculties. Also, how the information is retained with re. to the Health Records Act - http://www.legislation.g.../ukpga/1990/23/contents. It is interesting that another post after my own is asking similar for employees - but it does make me wonder if there is clear understanding with Practitioners of the Health Records Act and how we, unless Health Professionals such as a Nurse or GP, would not and should not be provided access to confidential health records. It is because of these issues I am checking what approaches other practitioners within either FE or HE have taken with regards to this issue. Andrew Böber CMIOSH FRSPH FRGS
