The HTM recommends horizontal evacuation strategies, however would you forego emergency exit signage above the fire doors on a protected staircase because it is not horizontal evacuation and direct persons onwards?.Our planner says yes, I say why would you continue horizontally for 30 metres and ignore a 60 minute compartment that leads to a place of ultimate safety for independents

Hi SBH,
I believe the horizontal evacuation strategy is for moving the bed ridden from an effected building compartment, further away from the source of the fire. IMHO it should be separate from the general evacuation procedure to which the signage relates.

Anyone taking part in the horizontal evacuation of the bed ridden shouldn't need to be looking for signage.
