I've just visited a couple of installations in France and would like to clarify a couple of issues:
Inspection of lifting equipment: is there a european duty to regularly inspect lifting equipment and accessories? I've had a quick look at the Machinery Directive but couldn't find anything regarding 6/12 month inspections as per LOLER.
Electrical appliances: I'm sure there must be a duty to maintain equipment but is it only the UK who is keen on PAT testing?
I made known my concerns at the time but would like to follow it up with some factual statements.
Many thanks

Sorry too busy to give you a full answer.
For LOLER I would chase up Directive 95/63/EC.
Dunno about Electricity at Work Regs as I dont think they were trigged by an EU Directive.

France requires lifting gear and electrical circuitry to be inspected annually similar to LOLER either by an independent organisation or by a suitably trained and certified employee. Most companies use organisations such as APAVE or AIF for the inspections. Veritas have been getting into the business over the past few years. Why not ask your local branch ?
There is nothing, to my knowledge, similar to PAT testing. It might be in the legislation somewhere but the only companies I have worked with that ever do it are those with English or American influence.
Bon voyage
