We have recently employed an apprentice in our company and are due to place him on site shortly, i am unsure if he requires a ECS/CSCS card due to him being an apprentice or will this be issued to him upon completion of his apprenticeship. I have put together a 20 question safety quiz to ascertain his safety competence before setting him free on site(he will be supervised). I know that after completion of level 3 NVQ they are exempt from sitting the ECS/CSCS health and safety test and can just apply for their card within 5 years.

Please advise

regards
Lee

Hi there

If your apprentice will be working on large construction sites he will need a card to get on and be able to sit his site induction. We have cards for all of our staff including people like CAD, QS and other regular visitors to site. You just need to contact JIB / ECS, book him in for a health and safety test and apply for a card - there are lots of different categories of card you can apply for - have a look at their website:
