Morning all, A while back I sat the CIEH Professional Trainers Certificate, I'm just updating my CPD and I've been told I can gain many marks if I break the course down. Could you assist me please and advise on the breakdown for each part. Still new to CPD but hopefully I'll get there. Barney#1

barney I didn't know you could do that as I just claim 3 points per course? I do find however that three years is time enough to accumulate the required total, even just during the course of my work as there is always something new to learn. Good luck.

Hi Chris, Thank you Ivor your reply, I'm already over my points that are required. I'd been told that I should break the course down in to sections as it's worth more points. Barney#1

I went to an IOSH branch meeting on CPD and was amazed at what I could get points for! if you feel it's worth more points if you break it down then from what I gathered you can do it... i.e. 3 points for a diploma? I think i'll split that up :) At the end of the day as long as you have enough points CPD is for your benefit really, so score you yourself how you think you should be scored. If you have enough points though why do you need more than 3? There is no C*IOSH for high scores :)

If you undertake a training course or a large project you are able to record these as smaller activities in order to claim that amount of credits you feel it is worth. It is up to the individual member to decide how they would record them but you could record an activity for each day of the training course, or by units or by modules, etc. For a project you can complete an activity for meetings, research, report writing, etc. The important part is the reflective statement for each activity. You need to set out what the activity was and why you did it, what was the outcome and having completed it, what was the benefit to you, how did the activity develop you, what might you do with the information. The reason this information is important is that if you are audited, this is the information the Auditor will assess so it is important that you put more than one line in the notes box. The Auditor will try to tie up the information in the notes box with the amount of credits you have awarded the activity. Although the minimum credits for the three years is 30 credits, it is more important that we see development throughout the three years and most members go over the minimum of 30. Hope this is of use however if you have any queries regarding this, please contact the CPD team on 01162573239 Fiona Gelling CPD and Mentor Dev Officer
