I hate the words "experience needed" how can you gain this if nobody gives you the opportunity?
I have been an engineer all my life in the Royal Navy and the utilities sector, with 5 years safety management experience.
Trying to get offshore or abroad is a nightmare. My peer interview is in September I'm hoping that will help, has any body had the same experiences or got any good advice.

Sounds like we're in the same boat Steve. I'm an ex-stoker, been out 3 years and have been looking for work since Christmas. Nothing ! I'm currently trying West/North Africa, Middle East, well anywhere to be honest. I've got the quals but not the experience.
What annoys me is the rubbish the forces resettlement people fill your head with, about how employable ex-servicemen are, fantastic transferable skills and all the rest of the tripe. The way I see it, is forget what you did in the mob, nobody gives a damn about it.
On the bright side, I personally think things are waking up, I've started to get a bit of interest from a couple of employers, so touch wood, something will come of it.

I spent most of my life in the mob on a pompey flattop, (invince) and as a stoker, i have a job at the moment as a safety manager in the gas industry but it has its limitations.
Got to get my peer interview done first though.

About a hundred years ago I was in the same position after 25 years in the army.
I finished up advertising myself in the local papers and it worked.
Remember not just Health and Safety you have many more skills including Managerial.
