Our insurers have stated that a spray booth in our unit comes under the DSEAR Regs due to the use of thinners and as such a risk assessment in required. This has been carried out and adjustments made (to lighting etc. They also say we need to 'Zone' the area and mark it (for use in the fire risk assessment etc) I realise that for the FRA a plan of the building will be required highlighting but (and forgive my ignorance) do we have to put signage up in that area stating 'possible explosive atmosphere'
DSEAR is something I have no previous experience with so any advice would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance.

I think you do need some signage.
If the electrical equipment in a zoned area is 'Ex' so as to prevent possible ignition, then you need to ensure that people do not transport non 'Ex' items into the area. For that you need signage.

A decent insurer would be pointing you in the right direction instead of just stating!

Difficult to envisga e what you're doing, but I'd assume a spray booth would have some sort of extraction system; if that's the case you need to extend the scope of your assessment to the extraction point and the extraction equipment.
Your insurer should help, but if you need a template assessment for PM me your email address and I'll send something over.

A Fire risk audit has been performed by the Fire services for the spray booth last week with recommendations : review design of capture hood, electrical installation and have a proper housekeeping, signage.
