Hi Guys, i am about to write a RA for working next to a river. The task in hand is to excavate a brown site with contaminates. I just wonderd if any one had done a similiar task and what was learned regarding the aspects and impacts. Thanks

As a starter 1 thing to get clear is the requirements of the Environment Agency as it is they who issue permissions for work next to a water way
U really need to know what the brown field contaminates are and the chance of any leachate that there is and what its impacts are on water/river life and what the river parameters are e.g. Its type, flow, depth and other parameters that there are and what special fauna, fish etc there may be
just some quick thoughts

I would register with the IEMA forum site and ask there.

To be totally honest the IEMA forum is a complete waste of time, no-one hardly ever uses it. Thats why I spend a lot of time on here, even though I'm more weighted towards the environmental side of things.

Undertake your exercise and then contact me before U go to publication - I will provide what advice I can thereafter noting that a combination of competences between H&S and environmental areas is required as both intermingle

I note all the responses to date have been looking at the environmental risks. I recall a number of threads on the safety side of working close to water - the only one I can find is specifically about a quayside, but much of the advice would be relevant in a riverside situation: http://forum.iosh.co.uk/...spx?g=posts&t=101435

Aspects and Impacts are environmental speak; hence the answers leaned towards Env areas and not H&S areas
