Hi All

I have just been told that the IPAF course does not cover pre-use checks of a harness and lanyard when MEWP training is being delivered.

I would like the chaps that use our MEWP to be competent to carry out pre-use checks on the harnesses they wear at the very least...

Is this true or is someone simply trying to sell me a half day course on harness and lanyard safety?
Responses welcome from any WaH gurus!

Regards

My team attended the IPAF 3a and 3b PAL training and it did cover harness pre-use checks.
Our harnesses are still subject to 6 monthly competent person checks but this is performed by another company.

Hi Guys,
I wonder why you have to go for a training on the usage of harness. Here, we call the supplier HSE represnetative and they used to give a useful presentation on the usage, damages, maintainenence etc of safety harnesses and lanyards

Pre-user checks are not enough they have to know how to wear, inspect and maintain harnesses and lanyards correctly for which Nationwide Training will do a half day IPAF accredited safety harness and lanyard course

all that is still covered in the 3a / 3b MEWP operator training,
However, I would still recommend the additional half day training on harness safety as well due to the importance of harnesses.
I'm amazed at the number of MEWP operators I still see who are still using fall arrest lanyards
