I thought the idea of discussion forums and being a member of the IOSH family was to be able to help each other, and keep an eye out.

Its disappointing that fellow professionals can not turn to a tool to promote themselves and get their details out there for other members who maybe looking to employ.

Steve,

I hear you Steve, but the Moderators are only following the rules of the forum.

If a person does post that they are looking for work and the Moderator locks it, that does not stop people from communicating with the original poster via the PM method.

I understand your concern and have commented on this myself in the past.

On a positive note, Members may not be aware of an excellent initiative from the Food and Drink Group to assist unemployed members get work placements which hopefully assist some members return to the workplace. This has been highlighted in the SHP and elsewhere by my colleague, Tom Chambers and his colleagues in the group.

Regards,

Ciaran

It can be frustrating when this happens although PM will work as pointed out.

Again although post will be locked if you hit the post right you do get a response, used it in the past and got feedback pretty well.

Stevie,
The forum rules prohibit advertising of jobs but not the advertising of individual availability for work. Thus a member can “promote themselves and get their details out there for other members who maybe looking to employ.” It is the employer who cannot advertise a vacancy.

It is the case that once a topic is locked then no further posts can be made. However, the topic remains visible to all users and this allows employers or others to make contact via private mail. The private mail facility is not locked even though the topic may be.

I hope this explains why these topics are always locked,
