Hi all
Has anyone heard about a new British Standard for work vehicle First Aid Kits?
All helpful responses welcome.
Kind regards

BSI have just announced (yesterday) that following a complaint the standard has been withdrawn.

What are we talking about here. From another source received by email 2 days ago I was informed that the new BSI standard BS8599: Workplace First Aid Kits, effective from 1 July 2011, allows for a six-month transition period. This affects the contents of first aid kits.
Is it being said that BSI have withdrawn this standard or is it another standard only applicable to Vehicle First Aid Kits?

I have just been on the web and can find no reference to a complaint to the BSI which has led to the withdrawal of BSI 8599 effective from 1 July 2011.
Infact, surprise surprise, I found loads of companies selling new first aid kits and stating they conform to the new BSI 8599 standard.
My previous post referencing "another source" - this source is the British Safety Council.
On the strength of this information I recommended to my bosses that we comply following a review of the current First Aid risk assessment.
Have I jumped the gun and will have to go back to my bosses and say I've got it all wrong?

HSE frequently asked questions on first aid wrote:
First aid kits and British Standard 8599 There is a British Standard BS 8599 for first aid kits, it is not a regulatory requirement under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 to purchase kits that comply with this standard. Instead the contents of a first aid box is dependent on an employers first aid needs assessment.
This means for employers following a needs assessment the options are:
1. Within your workplace you have access to a first aid kit whose contents complies with BS 8599 and matches your needs assessment;
or
2. Within your workplace you have access to a first aid kit whose contents matches your needs assessment but does not comply with the requirements of BS 8599.
