Can someone advise on; 'how often should fire alarms be tested'. Is there a recommended frequency of testing?

Note: I have checked the HSE website but could not find information on this. I have also tried the search function, on this forum, to find out if this topic had been discussed before.

Hi Adrian

BS5839: Part 1: 2002 Testing and Maintenance states it as being weekly (for testing sounders etc). There is no legal stated frequency, although it is commonly accepted that they should be tested weekly.

Weekly.

If you have break glass points test one each week in rotation until all are tested then start again.

Don't forget to keep a record.

Should have added that HSE are not the enforcers for fire safety, this comes from rrfso.
