...red tape, gold plated regulations, over zealous practitioners? Hmmm perhaps not.

I do hope your correct in anticipating that outcome. Prof Lofstedt seems a sensible chap, and the objectives and question set of his review equally so. It would be nice to see that LY report blown out of the water once and for all and for the HSE to be allowed to get on with things again in proper fashion. Let's hope there's an openess in publishing these findings, whether Tweedle-Dum and Tweedle-Dee (sorry NC and DC) like them or not.

Ray/Ron I hope he is thinking: 'Why is there no evidence of red tape and gold plated regulations related to health and safety at work? And why is the Daily Mail the main motivator of this Review? Cheers. Nigel

If indeed he does arrive at these conclusions it will be in agreement with past inquiries and umpteen parlimentary committeee investigations. But of course, that's not the message the present government will want to hear, so his recommendations will end up on the same dusty shelf.

I think there will be some recommendations for minor changes, which in public everyone will welcome, but in privet disparage. It will be heralded as a success by the government and used to show how they helped business. We just have to make the best of what remains. Whatever changes are made will result in new guidance / best practice then training will spring up, which either H&S practitioners may require ( then include in their charges) or business themselves engage in. This will ultimately result in more expense for business. Prof Lofstedt is probably thinking how can I get out of this, without looking a numpty or what possessed him to accept the job in the first place. I’m personally not sure I like the general comment that overzealous H&S practitioners are the problem. Does that include some or all 39,000 IOSH members or just a handful of rouge advisers out there ( to be clear I’m not suggesting that if you are not in IOSH you are a rouge adviser – far from it). It just seems a lot of effort if it is just a few rouge advisers.

"...a handful of rouge advisers... " The mind boggles I'm afraid. Why would five make-up artists turn feral? Although if you meant Rogue advisors - I'd have to echo your concern - the phrase has never been adequately justified in my view. Far too many erroneous conclusions have been drawn from the entirely unjustifed and unsubstantiated claims of the Daily Wail and others that such a beast actually exists and does a lot of harm.
