Hi, Having read through a lot of the threads on here people seem to have arrived at a general consensus that this discussion thread is no longer a place to ask for employment. I am going to hope that this is not the case and put myself forward for any potential roles in East Anglia. I have my NEBOSH General Cert and I am booked in to take my Fire Management Cert in September (block release so should be complete with results in hand by Christmas). I have enrolled on and paid for my NEBOSH Diploma course which I am completing through distance learning. I have passed Unit B and will be taking a three week residential course to ensure I pass Unit A next summer. I have extensive administration experience including HR and strong IT skills. I have a full clean driving licence and transport allowing me to be flexible with my travel and working times. The problem I have at the moment is due to my previous roles being partly administration I cannot gain TechIOSH until I have 'full time health and safety experience'. I have been carrying out health and safety tasks in my roles but they are not taken into account. I am finding it very difficult to find break into the health and safety industry without previous experience even given my qualifications and clear eagerness to become involved so I would appreciate any advice as well as any potential job offers (!). Thank you if you have taken the time to read this and please offer any advice that may help me or any others in the same situation.

Hi Kim, Past experience has told me that opportunities in the EA region are far and few between. I'm based in Suffolk and have taken positions both in London and currently commute 72 miles each way to my office base in order to obtain such a position. Best of luck Tony

Hi Tony, Thanks for the advice. I would be willing to travel either in the sense of permanent commuting or just for site visits etc. I agree with you, there does seem to be a lack of available positions around our area. When I took my NEBOSH Cert a few years back there seemed to be ample health and safety roles in the area but typically now I have the cert, everyone seems to be asking for Diplomas. I feel like I am chasing something I will never catch up with!

Kim, I believe that if you have 5 years experience of health and safety as part of your role you can use this to get Technician level IOSH membership. This is how i got mine. Just enter all the health and safety related sections of your employment in your evidence to IOSH. All the best. D.

Hi Kim, What areas are you willing to travel too? I may have a H&S Admin support role coming up in Essex. It might only be Part Time though? but it will help you get that first foot in the door. Si

Thanks for all your responses. Mr Flibble:It would depend on where in Essex- I would certianly consider anything at the moment! If you could pass me any details I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you MB1 I will look into the Norfolk police position but I suspect they will require someone with more substantial experience than me. draiggoch: I did send my evidence to IOSH but the reply I recieved went along the lines that I ccan only be classed as doing health and safety part-time which is why it is going to take me so long to gain TechIOSH status.

Sorry to 'bump' this post as it were but my desire to move into fulltime health and safety has just been forcibly increased due to conditions at my current workplace becoming unbearable. Any advice on how to get into the profession would be gratefully recieved. Thanks in advance.
