Good morning all,
Can anyone help please?
Where can I ‘go’ or does anyone have the standards for numbers of, distance spacing and types of automatic smoke detectors in these types of buildings?
Having done a quick search I’ve not come up with anything specific.
Many thanks
Alan

Hi,
I believe BS 5839-1:2002+A2:2008 should tell you all you need to know.

Have you tried
BS EN 54-2 covers Fire detection and fire alarm systems
BS 5837-1 Fire detection and alarm systems for buildings: Code of practice for system design, installation, commissioning and maintenance
You could also try the fire protection association as they have a number of useful guidance documents on fire safety management.

In offices???????? I don't think so!!!! The will do domestics but not commercials
Have a look & download here (bottom left hand side of page for Coopers excellent 'fire installers guide')
An excellent basic guide to BS5839-1 without shelling out £100s. Good luck

I would also be impressed if the fire brigade came and fitted them for free (or otherwise). I thought I'd missed a trick then :-)

Our local fire brigade fit smoke detectors for free in domestic properties (part of their community safety initiative), but I haven't heard of any similar initiatives for workplaces.
