I seem to recall a case where there was a malfunction of lift doors that resulted in an injury to an employee in a multi tenented premises. I have it in mind that in the judgement for damages, the einjured personsemployer was found liable for not carrying out their own risk assessment of the lift, even though it was in a common area. Does anyone else recall this and can point me in the direction of the case? (I am sure I am not imagining it!!) NB Where is spell check?

Interesting one; I'll look forward to the response. The spell checker is at the top left hand side of the message window, a tick with an ABC. You need to check before you post though.

http://www.thompsons.law...ourt-of-appeal-cases.htm Gives a brief (laymans) understanding of the decision (from about half way down the page). http://www.bailii.org/ew.../EWCA/Civ/2006/1119.html Is the full judgement.

There are quite a few cases where lift doors have failed and caused either injury or death, I recall one incident where two men were fighting in the lift lobby of a high rise building one of the men fell against the lift landing doors, the door shoes had not been maintained properly and both doors swung into the shaft causing the man to fall to his death down the lift shaft. Here is another case which is quite gruesome:- http://www.snopes.com/ho...rs/freakish/elevator.asp
