Hi Guys,
First post I have put on this forum. I am due for my peer review on Friday 9th September. I was just wondering if anyone could give me some pointers from their experiance, and maybe outline what I actually face.
I am confident in studying, but pretty nervous in standing in front a board of people.
Thanks;
James

James,
This is a very frequently asked question - could I suggest that you do a quick search for previous postings & if they don't answer your queries, then don't hesitate to come back & ask again!
Good luck by the way!

Thanks, I am just getting to grips with the workings of this forum. I have just gone through all the past posts relating to this question and I think I have answered all of my questions.
from what i have read I see that they question you on your own experiences, your comapny policies, your involvement in the risk assessment and method statement proccesses etc within your company, questions you answered incorrectly in your Open Assessment, and the Code of Conduct for IOSH.
The one question I do still have is: Is this to "grill you" or is this more of a conversational discussion to that is laid back in essence?

Good luck with your interview.
Possible format may be :-
PowerPoint presentation no longer than 15mins, concentrate on "you" not on your "company" or "team". Keep remembering to say "I" not "we". The panel want to know about you, how you got to were you are now, what you do now,your responsibilities and role and what you wish to achieve in the future.
What are you thoughts on the weak answers you may have given in your open assessment and what research you have done to address this.
What do you feel about the IOSH code of conduct. (they may let you answer this without referring to all 10 points, they require your feeling on the code itself)
Questions about your development plan and the CPD inclusions you sent.
Your involvement in such areas as SSOW, policies, what you have done in your health and safety role.
What are your plans for your H&S development.
They may ask you a few random questions but these should be related to what you have sent them.
My advise would be to keep referring to yourself, to be honest, to be yourself and don't answer a question with a guess, if you don't know say so but suggest ways you could find the answer out.
Did my peer to peer interview last week, still waiting for the results.
Yet again, good luck.
Steve

Thanks Steve, that is really useful information. I think i am along the right lines in terms of preparation, as I have been studying areas that I was found to be weaker on in my examination, and the code of conduct.
Fingers crossed for you also, I appreciate your quick response.
Kind Regards;

James,
"The one question I do still have is: Is this to "grill you" or is this more of a conversational discussion to that is laid back in essence"
I have sat on the Panels since they first started (4 years I think) & hopefully candidates didn't feel grilled, but then again I wouldn't call them laid back either - possibly something in the middle!
Treat it like a job interview, be professional, but be yourself!

Thanks Ziggy, I am usually an extremely confident person, but I am starting to feel very nervous, obviously because it means a lot to me.
Thanks again;

Hi James,
You could contact IOSH and ask for a mentor to guide you through the process?
Or contact me direct?
Regards

James,
Feeling nervous is good...it shows that it matters!
I note that your interview is this Friday, so if you want to e-mail me direct with a contact number, then we could have a chat - I am not on your Panel, so it would be ok!

Hi Steve W. I received your message about the great news. I do not know you personally, but after feeling the pressure myself, felt very chuffed for you.
Zyggy - Thanks for all the advice it really helped. I walked into the peer review really nervous, but after our discussion, I found the process relatively enjoyable! I will not hear from IOSH for another 2/3/ weeks. When I do find out, I will let you know. There was some pretty tricky questions, and it felt like an employment interview, but it was not as bad as I thought.
Fingers cross, thanks guys.

Hi Smart, just to let you know, a colleague of mine did the same route as what you are attempting. They received a pack explaining everything and had to compile a portfolio. Once they completed this, they sent over to IOSH. Once approved, they were asked to attend a peer review meeting. seemed very similar to the NVQ process to be honest (which is the way a decided to go).
Hope that helps.

The official countdown is on to my Peer Review Interview,needless to say I am reading the Code of Conduct over and over. Could you elaborate on the tricky questions referenced above?
