Ok. Very bad time to be setting up on your own.

....but if you insist then do a search on the forum as this question comes up repeatedly.

Not a good time to be starting up on your own, work is few and far between.

Businesses are holding on to their money as they do not know when the next dip is coming

Hi Stevie,
As previous posters have indicated times are hard, and not just in consultancy.

The first (and most crucial) question you'll need to answer before you start out is this: why should somebody come to me for this service(s) when the Yellow Pages/ on-line directories/ internet are overflowing with h&s people?

You have to have a Unique Selling Proposition (USP) to differentiate yourself from the competition. If you're selling the same thing as everybody else then can you sell it a different way so as to make it stand out from the crowd?

Take advantage of the free business advice available out there, and look at ways you can network (and not just through IOSH). The more people you know and talk to the better your chance of getting work.

It can be done - but it takes time and perseverence!

If you'd like to have an informal chat feel free to call me on 07771 538 985.
