Before I reinvent the wheel, does anyone have a pre-start checklist for hot work on site? We regularly visit clients premises to undertake repair work involving welding/grinding etc. I'm looking to put together a document that the operator would complete prior to beginning the task. If anyone has a template as a starting point that would be appreciated.

Thanks

Our rules are inspired by BP's ten golden rules - but we tailored / improved them:

Prior to hot work being carried out by competent contractors the following must be undertaken:
contractor to supply a risk assessment and method statement
a permit to work must be completed and authorised
If appropriate, local fire detection to be isolated to prevent false alarms
suitable extinguishers shall be located in the area
Contractor is aware of method to raise the fire alarm
The area is checked 60 minutes after the completion of the work
Combustible materials in the vicinity are removed from the area or protected from sources of ignition
