Hi everyone.

I'm an electrical engineer and health and safety manager from North Essex but like many i'm currently unemployed.

I've tried the various job websites & of course had good interviews, but still no job.

Has anyone tried the speculative route, where do I start, any suggestions who I could contact.

Naturally i've tried past colleagues and contractors who worked for me, but they have no current vacancies.

Any help or ideas would be really appreciated.

Thank you.

Rob - I agree with Zimmy, just keep trying. There are still jobs out there, just fewer of them and more people chasing them. I see you are based in Essex, I expect you have conermplated commuting into London?

You could always post a thread on this forum. Its aim includes ....... "and indicate your availability for work." There are fewer such postings, than there were up to a couple of years ago. Arguably with fewer postings, there are less for a potential employer to chose from so it might be worth trying.

A word of caution, however, I had a posting removed a couple of weeks ago. The moderator advised that I had fallen foul of FR6, which bans commercial avertising. The moderator stated ....... "By advertising your availability for work, rather than looking for a job, your contravened the rule and your post was removed.". I respect the moderator's decision.( As a sportsman I respect a referee's decision, although not always agreeing with it.)

My posting had included mention that I am on the OSHCR and one optionwas to seek subcontract work from other consultants. I thus not only respect, but agree wuth, the modrator's decsion. My posting should have been worded differently. I don't want Rob and/or any other forum user to fall foul of the same rule.

Hi Rob,

I fully appreciate your predicament as I have been searching for a new role for some while. Presumably you are looking for a h&s role, but are you willing to take a job back on the tools? The reason I ask is my new employer is seeking a number of employees some of which is electrical work based in your area. PM with your contact details and I will make some discreet enquiries if you are interested.

I'm still persisting using Twitter & Linkedin & i'm starting to get results.

I just wish there was more help from the Government, Industry & the profession to push career development for the individual.
