Hi, Now I do almost always the "hard" H&S stuff, PUWER98 assessments etc. tangible stuff. My daughters have just started their 'A' Levels. They are wanting to volunteer at a local children's after school club. This is run by a local Chapel. The Chapel is as most UK based religious institutes skint. Now I want to help my kids to do this, but without the relevant "paperwork" and I mean ALL of it, the extent of which I don't yet know they can't do this.
I am appealing to you my fellow IOSH members and other IOSH Forum users to help me out please?
There is I PROMISE NO FINANCIAL benefit to me in this what so ever, it is merely to attempt to help the local Chapel after School club gain a couple of extra volunteers, which in turn will help my 16 Yr old Girls to understand the "ramifications" of the H&S world ready for when they move into the real world of work, and to help them get some voluntary work onto their c.v.'s.
Anyone willing to help with sample documents etc. once I have clarifications of what the "powers that be" need?
Some I will be able to rattle off, but as they have no machine tools and things of this ilk I'm a bit "lost"!
Please do understand where I am coming from, I am NOT doing this for a fee, and this is NOT an area that I want to move my business into, this is for one sole purpose as a Father trying to help my kids into the real world, and out of that "cotton wool" state that is current school.
Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing and able to help, it will be genuinely and honestly appreciated.
Paul

I'm not quite sure where to start Paul and am about to shoot off on leave. I did help out with a RA for the local after school club, some tears ago and they were 'inspected' by OFSTED I think, I wonder if they may also be able to give you a steer or perhaps KIDRAPT?
Would they need to do a CRB check?

Phil, You can start when you come back if you like! ;) They already have the required CRB check from their year 11 volunteering, but they now need to start again!
Once I have a handle on what they need within the next few days I'll post some details.
Thanks Phil, and if you are back before the info is needed I'll give you a poke! ;))

Paul,
I am not really sure what you are asking for but if you look on the HSE website there is a risk assessment for charity shops/volunteers which you may find useful to give you a basic idea of issues to be addressed that you can then adapt.

Hi Paul, I can remember seeing the guidance document that on the following link some time ago which may be of use to you: https://www.ecclesiastic...althandsafety/index.aspxAlthough it's aimed more at the persons looking after the health and safety of the church, it may be useful if you are organising a group within the premises. "without the relevant "paperwork" and I mean ALL of it, the extent of which I don't yet know they can't do this."
A wee bit unclear. Do you mean you're unwilling to allow your daughters to work there until the Chapel has appropriate safe systems of work in place?

ron, No it's not me that is stopping them, the school will not allow this volunteer work to be counted for some requirement unless the club provides the necessary "paperwork"!
Thanks all for the info so far, I'll go through it and the links later and come back to you.

Hi Paul,
Why don't you ask the school to be a bit more specific on what 'paperwork' they want, I am sure if you are clear on what they are after our friends on this board can help you.

Work with several children charities and cover many aspects of H&S. (Has included AALA appliations where the whole paperwork system is reviewed at least every two years). Never used forum before but email adress and should be able to pass templates etc.
Cheers, Phil

Thanks all, We have asked the school for what they require etc., just no feedback yet! My Wife has also done some H&S training in the form of "IOSH - Managing Safely", (Zimmy, she is an ex - Meyrick trainee!) so she has an idea of what questions to ask. We are waiting with baited breath as to what they actually want. Mind, can you all ensure that you don't "HOLD" your breath until we get an answer! Else, the IOSH membership numbers may take a tumble!!!
Thanks all.
Once I know what is needed in detail I'll be asking again. Your support is honestly appreciated.
Thanks again.
