Ive heard of a drop hazard calculator/ scale that works out if an object falls from height at what height it would not injure, injure or kill, but cant find anything! Can anyone point me in the right direction, website or publication.

Why bother a fall on the level can kill!!! It is merely a matter of degree, Fuzzy logic rules OK.

U also need to know what the object is dropping onto to fully calculate any potential harm/damage as a 2lb hammer dropping onto a 4 year old's toe in a school maintenance job is different to the same hammer dropping on the same job onto a 20 year's old toe; complicated is it not?

But I am sure that area has already been sorted

I understand where Thomo is coming from in looking for information regarding dropped objects as have used many moons ago for scenarios with regards to working in the derrick offshore.
Useful for toolbox talks etc to hammer home the message of securing tools at height and also where required ensure the drill floor is clear during such operations.

Bob you are also correct in principle too!

You are of course correct but, working with data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics website, one of my training presentations shows that the ratio of LTAs to fatalities for a fall from height is 126, but from fall on the level it's 1517 (2009 data - but the ratios are amazingly constant year by year).

So dropping people (and things) clearly needs more attention - as you subsequent helpful posts have shown!
