Hi

Apologies if this has already been covered in other topics or posts on the forum but I was hoping to get some career advice etc,

I have been working in the construction industry for the past 9 years and have a keen interest in construction health and safety to the point that I studied for my NEBOSH construction certificate in Health and Safety alongside working a full time job, with no finanical support etc from my current employer.

However now I have this qualification and due to circuminstances changing with how my employer works, they are looking to send me on a APS CDM Management Course in order to for me to practice as a CDMC inhouse.

I have done a bit of research and it looks like I would need to be a registered member of the APS alongside this training course in order to be able to practice as a CDMC, however are there any forum members who can help and advise me if i need any further qualifications or experience which will enable this to help?

I am currently seeking to gain Tech IOSH membership in order to suplement my knowledge and experience.

Anyway thank you for taking time to read this post and assist me

I'd ensure you go on an APS accredited course (this will add to the points tally when trying to achieve APS membership). Details can be found on the APS website!

To achieve Registered Membership, you will need to jump through some hoops (quite a few!). You'll need to be able to demonstrate design knowledge, as well as construction and health and safety, along with associated levels of academic achievement. The 'Registered' bit is achieved through taking and passing the online exam (once a Member).

In honesty, the first questions should be, what scale, complexity of projects are you likely to be working on?

Indeed SP, work within one's capabilities/knowledge.

Chetter, I'm sure there are many good CDM-C's who are not members of APS. I'm just a TechIOSH with NEBOSH and some years experience as a consultant/adviser and I have acted as CDM-C on two projects, small house-building projects, with good designers, (oh, and a refurbishment project which I pulled out of because the builder would not write up plans with me, would not let me on site just once a week so he could do work without risk assessment!, and persisted in using a dodgy scaffolder, I resigned and took my name off the on-line F10. Choose projects with care!).
