Hi Pauljasper, I can highly recommend Sheilds. I have done the NVQ level 4 with them (which is the new level 5 NVQ) I have a friend who has done the same, and a colleague who is just about to start with them, he id doing the NVQ level 5. I have heard horror stories about NVQ providers, but these you can trust (based on personnel experience). I bumped into someone else the other day (a client), he was telling me that he enjoyed studying with them also. Plus, very reasonable on rates. They have 2 offices, 1 near Newcastle, and 1 near Hull, but I am at London, found their help over the phone more than enough. http://www.sheilds.org/a166-contact-us.html SHEilds Ltd SHEilds House Unit 24 Priory Tec Park Saxon Way Hessle Hull HU13 9PB E-Mail: safety@sheilds.org UK Telephone: 0845 122 3408 UK & International Tel: +44(0)1482 806 805 South Africa Tel: +27(0)836 072 837 NVQ Enquiries: 0845 604 8327

My understanding is:- The Old NVQ 4 is now the New NVQ 5 Level diploma - they are more or less the same qualification but I do believe there is some upgrade requirements for the new 5 Dip. They are both NFQ (National Framework Qualifications) Level 6 qualifications. The old NVQ 5 in Occupational Safety I believe once again is not available under this title anymore but is available as a Diploma Level 7 and is a post graduate award and is a Level 7 qualification in the NFQ. This qualification is aimed at practitioners who manage practitioners and is strategic………... Confused - I was for a while.

Hi For the persons "in the know" in recruitment the L4 and L5 are the same, applicants with either qualification should be treated the same. For recruitment persons "not in the know" then who knows if they will favour a L5 over a L4! The L5 has been tweaked but is pretty much the same in essence, just changes in phraseology. For the sake of accuracy, there are 39 either new areas or areas of doubt where you can't cross reference the L4 into the L5. This means people can covert their L4 to a L5 by addressing it with the 39 pieces of evidence. For us this has been a mammoth task, but we have cross referenced, ticked boxes and got approval from OCR to deliver a conversion or upgrade course. It shouldn't have been mammoth, but hey ho! Now approved, its all straight forward and candidate who may think they are at a disadvantage because of the industry they are in (Agency prevalent contract work) may find it advantageous to upgrade. Regards Linda
