We are installing security gates at our site, we can have the fire alarm connected to the gates so that they will lift / open in case of a fire emergency so that the fire brigade can gain access
What about the other emergency services ? As our site does not have a security hut there is no one available to open the gate in case of emergency
Just wondering what other sites do? Or what the law says ? I would imagine having a panic button that can be pressed that could open the barriers remotely?
Any infor ideas appreciated

I don't understand - how are the gates opened normally? Is this for when the site is completely unoccupied?

A swipe card is given to every employee which they wave in front of a sensor and the barriers lift.
I was just thinking of every eventuality, the site is a manufacturing site and is 24/7 in the evening there are only 5 guys on site operating the plant
I suppose if there was an emergency Ambulance needing access at 3 am one of the staff will have to run out and open the gates for the emergency services?
I was just thinking what is companies do or whether it is a given or a standard that an employee will rush to open the gate?

What do you do when visitors turn up at your premises or a member of staff forgets their swipe card?
In the 3am incident you described, the staff will know an ambulance has been summoned so hopefully common sense would prevail and a staff member would be waiting by the gate control to admit the ambulance on arrival.

If an ambulance has been called, then someone should go and meet it anyway to give directions to where on site the casualty is.
We do have security on our gate, but in the event that someone arrives and no one is there, they can use an internal phone on the public site of the gate (where we have a little reception office / waiting room) to make a tannoy call that will be heard on site (or equally, a call to an internal number).
