Does any body have any contacts for training courses on the carrying out of a workplace lighting assessment?

Surely you don’t need training to use a light meter? You just need to know what buttons to press and then apply some nous.

Your reply has given us a laugh in the office, however, the serious point behind the question was not how to use a light meter, but a course in conducting a workplace light assessment. The issue being, would you classed competent to carry out such an assessment without first proving you had at least attended a suitable course?

It depends. I can, after referring to CIBSE/The Society of Light and Lighting guidance/codes do a basic assessment using a light meter. However, I would not undertake an assessment for the design /installation / modification of the lighting Anway, try contacting CIBSE/Society of Light and Lighting/Institution of Lighting Engineers

A few years ago I completed a course (14 Days) to BTEC Certificate entitled Lighting and Non Ionising Radiation. Course was run at North East Surrey College of Technology. Interstringly there is more to it than pressing a few buttons and using your nous. Measurement is one thing, what can be done about the findings is another!

You will probably be better off talking to a lighting design company for some support. Have you considered - Do you require any natural light.... What is the minimum lux levels that must be met.... The type pf premises you are assessing... The type of work being carried out, such as detail work (watch maker reapir) or warehouse...
