Hi all. Did I read somewhere that New Zealand or Australia (or both) have a mind to enact legislatiion to ensure that ALL asbestos is removed from all places by 2015? If so, can anyone point me in the right direction for the article please?

Unless they demolish ALL buildings then in no way can they ensure all ACMs are removed. This is politicing of the first order. Just imagine the costs, it will be simply mind blowing

Seems unlikely. As far as I can gather, NZ still imports ACM Building Products.

I wonder if the legislation states something like 'known ACMs' to be removed rather than a carte blanche removal of all ACMs as, others have pointed out, the demolition costs would be astronomical. Removing asbestos (and increasing disturbance) must surely increase the risk of exposure even if it is being done correctly. If you can't get to it, it can't get to you.

But why remove all known ACM's? That surely creates more risks than it eliminates?

Hi Leslie
I believe that I saw something about asbestos in Australia in the current IIRSM Newsletter. I haven't got a copy to hand to clarify exactly what was said. But this maybe what you are referring to.
