Is anybody aware of any specific British Standard or other UK guidance around the use of Hob units in a kitchen where children may be taught cookery.

Depends on the age of the children. BS exist for numerous elements of Schools design, Care Councils/ SCSWIS would advise for Nursery age (where the ubiquitous (and prone to earth fault) 'Baby Belling' usually holds sway).

'BS 4163:2007 Health and safety for design and technology in schools and similar establishments; Code of practice'. It includes 'food technology'.
