I work for a company that sends staff off to audit clients. Increasingly the staff are auditing more hazardous clients such as contruction sites, quarries and oil rigs. Where we have previouly agreed the client will provide all necessary PPE for our staff, we're receiving more questions on the firm providing PPE for staff and holding a stock that staff can call off when required. PPE is usually high vis jackets, hard hats and steel cap boots. The firm providing PPE for various members of staff obvioulsy brings about some challenges to manage it e.g. ensuring suitability of PPE for individuals, training on PPE, maintenance of PPE and storage etc. Does anyone else have to implement this and have any hints??

I think that it is prefectly normal for audit companies to supply their staff with PPE if they are accepting the business to audit such clients.
Risk assessment! you will need to undertake an assessement for the types of sites you are sending your staff to - then consider the types of PPE they will then need.
Obviously oil rigs are a little bit special but you are not permitted onto oil rigs unless you have done basic training so presumabley they will specify the PPE you will need. For the other types of site you are visiting - a standard PPE inventory could be put in place - and I have to assume that those going to site have some notice they are going - enough time then to pull together the types of PPE they require.
As they are auditing I hope they are receiving some awareness training on the types of hazard they are likely to come across and how to deal with those hazards.
If as in the case of oil rigs where you need specialist training could you not then have a specialist oil rig audit team?
PPE can be stored in cars int he correct way - with accomodation for dirty and clean PPE.
Contact a good provider such as Arco (ther good suppliers available) and they can assist you in selection, maintenance and even training
