As part of our new Warehouse management system the use of headsets for the picking staff has been introduced over the last month or so, these staff have a certain amount of interaction with forklifts that also operate in the Warehouse at the same time as picking. My concern is that even though there is only the one ear piece they may not be able to hear warning signals from the transport or that they are concentrating more on listening to the instructions through the headset than what is going on around them. Speaking to staff as well as observing them work there doesn’t seem to be any obvious additional risk but I was wondering if anyone else is operating a similar system and could advise on problems they have had, be it with transport or other headset related issues. Paper lists ! Haven't used them for years, we do have hand held displays but the headsets are the way forward apparently, two free hands for picking from the several thousand picking locations we have, telling the lads where to go, I was just after any H&S feedback from any other company that may use them.
