I am due to have an interview next week with a well known company, who carry out expert washroom hygiene, cleaning, integrated facilities services and clinical waste management services. I have to provide a broad 15 minute presentation about the day to day health & safety issues that I would need to think about. I may start by looking at COSHH.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, especially from those who are in the industry.

If they have 14001 etc might be worth a mention.

Have you considered:

Infection control
Needlestick Injuries
Slips trips and falls
Legionnaires
Lone workers
To name but a few

In essence, biological agents and control.

Though I wouldn't loose sight of the universal matters such as stress management and manual handling.

Also consider site specific risk assessment of cleaning/maintenance tasks and safe working method statements for employees to follow.

1) where do you live?
2) when is your interview?

I have over the years I have been party to engaging most of the big names in contract cleaning - I have a few of site manuals which would really help you? I would want them back though.

Manual Handling - Make sure you address this one! Its a biggie in this industry. In addition have you thought about proactive health and safety in terms of vaccinations / training / health awareness due to the risk of needlestick injuries
