Does anyone know if Abu Dhabi and Dubai have picked up since the 2008 recession? I remember Dubai taking a hammering and ex-pats leaving in their droves following the crash. Just wondering how it is for employment now as I have been approached about work out there.

Hi Rocky Im currently in Oman, having been in Saudi prior to that. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are recovering slowly, with the knock on effect that salaries are not as high in most areas as they were in the 'boom'. There is lots of work in Saudi, and here in Oman. Big contracts are being awarded in both Saudi and Oman for rail networks, and major civils work. And of course Qatar is ramping up for the world cup, with major infrastructure, highways, utlitities, etc. My advice, get one possibly two decent agencies to work with, there are some decent ones, PM me and i can tell you who ive used and they have been very reliable. I would also stress that you research the country and critically examaine any 'package' which is offered alongside the basic salary (flights, insurance, accomodation, car, fuel, etc). Best of luck if you decide to go for it. Regards, Mal
