Hi All

I am currently looking at accident statistics at work and would like some feedback from other as to how they classify, or really what is the standard of there is one. Especially with regards to types of classification i.e First aid Treatment (FAT) Medical Treatment Case ( MTC). I have looked at HSE websites and OSHA and cannot seem to find anything in particular that gives a set standard.

I look forward to your responses

Well I would categorise as:

First Aid
Over three day
Major Accidents
Fatalities

This seems to tie in with RIDDOR reporting guidelines.

I agree with Hilary. One of the large insurers partially rates their clients on the basis of these figures (plus reportable diseases) per 100 employees.

If you are looking to benchmark failures against others (not always very useful) it would be a good idea to see how the others categorise theirs.

Hi

I work for a large organisation and we classify the following;

Near Hit

Minor Injury
Medical Treatment Injury (MTI)
1 - 3 Day LTI
Over 3 Day LTI (RIDDOR)
Major (RIDDOR)
Fatality (RIDDOR)

Dangerous Occurence (DO)

On the Injuries, we work out the injury rate as Injury per 100,000 man hours worked. You can then benchmark yourself against other companies in the same field as yourselves, This will also look good when tendering for work if you act as a contractor or If you are looking at the 18001 accreditation
