Religion aside, what effect would todays Health, Safety and Environmental Laws have had on the run up to and during the big day. This is meant to be a Friday topic by the way!

Well,
Appropriate safety eye wear would need to be worn when the Angle Gabriel appeared, with his bright light.
The Shepard's would suffer the effects of stress from a holy encounter, the wise men may have back issues riding on a camel from afar, there was probably serious over crowding issues around the stable and what I want to know is who was the fire warden !

A baby conceived out of wedlock, a family of no fixed abode living in unsanitary accommodation next to livestock etc.......the 3 wise persons of Social Services may have taken an entirely different course of action.

They would need to consider the transmission of zoonotic infections such as E. coli O157 from the animals. Was there a wash hand basin with hot and cold running water and soap nearby for all the visitors to use?

Sounds like something from that programme about big fat gypsy weddings.

While shepherds watched
Their flocks by night
All seated on the ground
The angel of the Lord came down
And glory shone around
The union of Shepherds has complained that it breaches health and safety regulations to insist that shepherds watch their flocks without appropriate seating arrangements being provided, therefore benches, stools and orthopedic chairs are now available. Shepherds have also requested that due to the inclement weather conditions at this time of year that they should watch their flocks via CCTV cameras from centrally heated shepherd observation huts.
Please note, the angel of the lord is reminded that before shining his/her glory all around s /he must ascertain that all shepherds have been issued with glasses capable of filtering out the harmful effects of UVA, UVB and the overwhelming effects of Glory.

Crikey - Blame my wonky hearing, but for many years I thought the opening lines of the carol quoted at response #11 above were about the shepherds washing their socks. However, if it's actually about sheep there's no need now for any advice about only using detergents appropriate for hand washing socks. :-)
p.s. Talking of time BC, when I visited Petra or some other ancient site in Jordan some years ago, a vendor with a small stall of artefects sold to me for a significant sum (would you believe?!!!) a fragment of a small pot with "100 BC" inscribed on it. As the vendor pointed out, this marking clearly showed that the fragment was very ancient (well, 2100 years old) and this was reflected in its high price. However, as I'm now thinking of selling the valuable fragment, I'm open to offers from fellow forum users for a short time!!!! :-)

I cannot beleive y'man was allowed to carry that heavy cross so far. Clearly someone did not do a MHO assessment. Furthermore, the poor sole had to endure a seemingly endless period of being nailed to the cross at a height greater than 6ft (1.8 metres) and without any fall protection - shocking!
ps I bet the Mods are having a nightmare with all these 'Friday' threads.
