I have been contacted urgently about a h&S role starting next week on the 4th January. A cscs number is required for the job. Would anyone be kind enough to explain the best test and card to get as there are different ones: from visitors, graduates, site operatives to management. I will appreciate a quick response. Thank you very much. Ola

it depends on the level of qualifications you have and what type of job you will be doing, as you say there are many different cards. link below goes into abit of detail on each type and level of qualification/experience needed. http://www.cscs.uk.com/types-of-cards has the employer said what card is needed? i got the trainee technical supervisory management card while i was doing the NEBOSH Certificate. good luck getting a date for doing the test as you still have to send off for the card afterwards. hope that helps. pete

Thanks for your response. I will be designated the role of health and safety coordinator. I can't confirm the employer's particular card requirement because they are shut till the 3rd of January. I have booked a test for the the same day (3rd January). As it is I may just take the test on wednesday, then confirm what level of card to send of before requesting the card. Thanks again for your assistance

Just take the highest level test that your qualifications allow.

I would simply take the managers test you will then have a number if you have NVQlevel 4 or 5 you will be able to apply for a black card if you have a level 3 the gold supervisors card if not you will only be able to get a visitors card or a red trainee card until you have completed NVQ

I do believe that an H&S advisor / co-ordinator should apply for the professionally qualified person, yelllow card countersigned by IOSH

There are four different cards that I could qualify for and last time I renewed my card I ended up with a Platinum one even though I applied through the professionally qualified route. Ironically the last (and only) time I was asked for a card was five years ago and that was only after I discovered someone working in an unsupported trench!
