All,

I cover both Ireland (south) and UK. I have seen different interpretations (emails, calls etc) from various sources that say dock levellers do/do not need T/E schedules in place for this equipment i.e. it may or may not be mandatory

Mind you, the same information I get also says they do/do not need

I look forward to your supreme guidance (especially our regulatory colleagues and insurers.

Thanks

Ian

Mind you, the same information I get also says they do/do not need PLANNED PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE either as a mandatory item but have put it in place anyway (just in case). Is there a legal list somewhere that says this equipment etc, must have PPM and T/E.

I look forward to your supreme guidance (especially our regulatory colleagues and insurers.

Thanks

para 27 at this reference

suggests disapplication in a LOLER context.

Hi Ian,

I suggest you ask your own insurers first. Their requirements will doubtless be more stringent than the legal requirement.

As to the need for PPM, it would be prudent, not just from a safey point of view but also a business one.

IMHO you don't need a scheme of thorough examination as a dock leveller doesn't come under LOLER.

That doesn't mean to say that it shouldn't be checked regularly to ensure its in good working order.

Its not mandatory to have them on DL's however many organisations see this as best practice and many company'sthat have them fitted take this approach, particularly in large logistics operations such as retail.

Hi, thanks for the reply, it helped keep it clear in my mind.

Strange interpretation I received from authorities was 'you need to ensure that whichever inspection you do receive, that it is suficient enough to identify faults'. Och well, soldier on. After much tooing and frowing at least they did try...i think!

End result was; No T/E required, but PPM is already in place.
