Thanks Myles I cannot think of a worse recommendation (in respect of schools) than this one. It is hoped across my schools (by every single teacher) that it is not abolished - but we do not hold our breath. Rich

Rich - consultation ended in September and the consultative document said "The intention is for legislative change to begin progress through Parliament during the second session beginning May 2012. New arrangements will come into place some months after that date. Appropriate transitional arrangements will be made." HSE's page on AALA gives no further clues that I could see.

As I understand it the licensing regime is going to be replaced by a voluntary code of practice. I believe that representatives from outdoor education providers and advisers from local goverment have been meeting with the HSE and government officials to discuss the propsed replacement for the licensing arrangements. Similar discussions are taking place in Scotland. PM me if you want more info or a brief chat.

Yes folks, as Bob mentioned, a separate consultation is currently being carried out in Scotland, as the Scottish Government may replace AALA with something different than other parts of the UK. This consultation runs from 6/1/12 til 30/3/12. It can be found at www.scotland.gov.uk/consultations The consultation proposes 3 possible options: 1. Adopt the model being proposed in England 2. Non-statutory safety accreditation scheme 3. Statutory accreditation scheme (seems to be a continuation of AALA)
