Hello,
We are currently looking to purchase some soft fall arrest sytems for use with lorry trailers. A supplier has informed us that the air fan needs a CE mark (which it has) however the rest of the system does not require one.
I have trawled various sites and as far as I can assertain. It would still require marking under General Product Safety.
Could any one advise me if I am correct or am I putting up barriers.
Where would we stand legally if we accepted this product with out it being CE marked.
Also what would happen if we then hired this equipment out to our contractors.
All helpful Feedback will be greatly received.
Thank you.

You need to take a look at the Personal Protective Equipment Regs 2002. If the fall arrest system meets the definition of PPE in those Regs (and I think it probably will) then, it will need to be CE marked in accordance with Regs 8 and 12.

Mylesfrancis,
Thank you for your reply.
I am still not sure that it comes under PPE as it could be classed as collective protection.
i.e if more than one person is working on the trailer.
