Demolition work is CDM and is not automatically notifiable however the regs do suggest more management is required so CDM-C is useful for this type of project.
If the client is appointing a CDM-C does it necessarily follow that notification is "required"?

No. Neither is it a requirement to refer to the consultant engaged as a CDM-C.
The more important aspect is that the bod you've engaged does actually have experience in demolition contracts! (Not all CDM-Cs are equal).

Not a requirement but I think appointing a CDM-C to a demo project is better than not.
Surely if there is no requirement then without a CDM-C a Client will rely on the competence of a demolition contractor?

All employers [clients] should have a competent* adviser as per the MHSW regs so that person can act for the client in these cases [*note I used the word competent!]
Whilst not knocking any CDMC [I act as one!] a CDMC would be an additional expense for small, short term works [that could be high risk but the regs allow for this] that clients do not want or need especially in these hard times and noting that the MHSW person would already be getting paid! And a CDMC is not a requirement of CDM for none notifiable works
My advice is undertale a whole project RA and go from there noting that many CDMC's are not H&S experts; they have some knowledge mix at best - Others are magnificent!

In this case the client has suggested a need for CDMC and expects one to be appointed.
The client may believe it is CDM notifiable because most construction projects he has usually are, or just may think a CDMC should always be involved?
The "honest" way forward is to notify the client his responsibilities under CDM and include that CDMC is not a requirement for this project.
The client can then decide having been informed.
Is this something all CDMCs would do or would you just go along with the CDMC appointment without informing him?
