Just had a giggle for a recent job posted on a well known recruitment website...
1 of the main requirements for this position: Candidates must be a fully chartered member of the IOSH, NEBOSH certificate would be advantageous
No wonder employers find it difficult in interviewing the right candidate!

I recently spat coffee all over my laptop after reading some details for a Global EHS position.
It read 'Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Managing Safely qualification preferred'

Its a worry.......
UK and International Organisation requiring CMIOSH (Corporate Member Institute of Occupational Safety Health) with minimum cert or diploma.
If they don't understand what they are asking for, how do we meet their requirements?

On the other hand, instead of poking fun at an employer who does not know the intricacies of H&S qualifications, you could look at it as an indicator of just how badly the company is in need of competent safety advice and write your covering letters accordingly.

Lots of "chartered" members do not have NEBOSH certificates. I would be more concerned about the applicant's ability to do the job. I have recruited a chap (ex north sea OM) who had safety in his veins but had no NEBOSH qualifications. He didn't need any. He chose to study via NTU for diploma as well as doing Msc from another University at the same time just to "get the acedemics out of the way".
I know of other "chartered" members who have never worked outside an office environment.
