Scott, I would suggest trying Paper and Board Industry Advisory Committee (PABIAC) or the Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) if you havent already tried these.

I would say in an area away from ignition sources. Plus I would imagine that these reels are very compact and would be very difficult to ignite so keep them in good condition SBH

Scott Have a look at HSE Paper Mills Guidance on Fire Risk http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/web08.pdf includes information on storage and was written in consultation with PABIAC. Regards Sonia

Not just a fire question though, handling can raise other hazards. Use of special 'clamp' truck adaptors on FLT requires extra training and experience. Reels are heavy - varying with weight grade of the paper and length of the reel. Reel stores would, ideally, have no pedestrians in them without a clear control system being in place to alert the FLT operators and pedestrian exposure minimised in any case. Stock control so that the reels are used and don't get old in store reduce the risk of loss due to contamination. We have a plant or 2 in your approximate region, drop me a pm and we could get you a visit to see how we do it. Regards, S
