Hi,
This is outside of my remit/experiences but we are currently i need of repositioning some HV underground cables at our site due to replacement of drainage system that are being planned in near future. I'm only doing some research to satisfiy myself of the necessary competencies and work methods so any advise would be excellent. As the scope of the works is meets the criteria for notifiable works under CDM regs we have appointed a CDM-C and currently awaiting submission from PC the construction phase plan which will cover these works but I want to prepared myself to challenge/revoew what is returned.
Anybody got any pointers for me?

Whose cables are they?
If they are the DNO, then they will need to be involved, same with NG.
If they are private HV cables then your SAP must be involved.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the response. I'm not totally understanding the abbreviations... (sorry). The HV cables are our own cables. Current thoughts are that consult with our electrical sub contractors on process and have them brought in as sub contractors under the PC. (?)

OK,
DNO = Distribution Network Operator. These are the companies that operate the local HV & LV sections of the National grid, the likes of EON & Western Power Distribution.
You will find it is a criminal offence to mess with their cables without their permission.
NG = National Grid, they own & operate the EHV & HV main electrical distribution network in the UK.
IF you have your own HV cables then you will have a SAP = Senior Authorised Person for the switching and maintenance of these cables.
It will be very doubtful that any "NORMAL" electrical contractor will be competent or even authorised to work on HV cables.
I think a bit of clarification is needed please?

Paul has given excellent advice [this is what this site is all about, so thanks Paul] so please take note of it.
Additionally your CDMC should have specific competence re this area and if not I strongly advise that you change the CDMC for one that does [if you can find one] as your CDMC should have given some advice already re this area. Even bring in the utility people if you have to or at least a company who specialises in such areas; do not DIY such works and I would make the specialists the PC not the generalists
If you can give more detail about the project it would help

Back to the basics:
Designer to eliminate hazards 'SFAIRP' - can you avoid disturbing the cable by changing / tweaking the drainage design?
If so, job done!
