Hi, Can anyone give me any life expectancy figures of fire extinguishers: I believe that after 10 years for water based extinguishers it is dispose of (though our fire extinguisher contractor recomends discharge and recharge of it which I dont think is correct) and 5 years discharge and recharge or replace Co2, Foam and powder. Fire blankets life span is visual check its still robust. Does anyone have any comment on these please. Best regards, RB

Water, AFFF and Powder extinguishers should have a discharge test every 5 years. As long as there are no signs of deterioration (i.e. rust) to th eextinguisher body, then as far as I understand it, the extinguisher can be put back into service. I was under the impression that CO2 has a 10 year life span before discharge and pressure testing is required.

Actually, just checked back through my reference stuff here - CO2 shoul dhave a discharge test every 5 years, and all should have an extended service every 10. Again, as long as the units pass, they can still be put back into service.
